Doing Infrastructure Right
While there is much to learn from others about developing infrastructure, India does not need to import practices that lead to late and over budget projects.
We can change the face of India and help lift hundreds of millions out of poverty if we do infrastructure right - if we bring infrastructure projects to completion quickly and efficiently.
Project management capacity is critical for achieving this goal. According to the Project Management Institute, India already has a shortage of 5 lakh project managers based on current project needs. However, traditional project management methods will not help. They have already failed globally. Harvard Business Review reports that construction projects fail at an alarming rate – more than 50% by some estimates. Many managers believe that project delays are caused by everyday uncertainties that are beyond their control. The real reason, however, is that instead of withstanding uncertainties, traditional project management methods magnify them, inducing firefighting and turning small delays into big delays.
Fixing project management.
Our methodology, based on Dr. Goldratt's theory of constraints, helps you tame uncertainties and maintain control so that you can get projects done faster and more efficiently. Working with over 200 major organizations worldwide including ABB, BHP Billiton, Dr. Reddy’s, L&T, NASA and TATA Steel, we have perfected it and helped them realize more than US$3B in savings.
